Released in 1937 and performed by Chun-chun, “Midnight in Dadaocheng” is the first Taiwanese Hokkien pop song to feature Dadaocheng as its central theme. The lyrics were written by Chen Jyun-yu and the music composed by Yao Zan-fu. Chen Jyun-yu was known for drawing inspiration from local landscapes to express emotion. Other examples of his place-based lyrics include “The Balancing Rock” (Wenshan), “Anping Fantasy” (Tainan), and “The Bridge Suite” (Taipei), along with this Dadaocheng-themed song.
