Released in 1934 and performed by Chun-chun, “Rainy Night Flower” was a key production following Jhou Tian-wang’s appointment as head of the Literary and Artistic Department at Taiwan Columbia. The lyrics were written by Jhou Tian-wang, with music by Deng Yu-hsien. The song’s popularity led to its inclusion in the Taiwan no Ongaku compilation. During the Japanization period, it was adapted into Japanese in both a military version (“Hōre no Gunpu”, sung by Kirishima Noboru) and a popular version (“Ame no Yoru no Hana”, sung by Watanabe Hamako). A Mandarin version, “Ye Yu Hua”, was later recorded by Bai Guang.
