Shuiwatou Hiking Trail

Located on the north shore of Sun Moon Lake, the Shuiwatou Hiking Trail was formerly known as "Toad Cave". According to local lore, after heavy rain, a large number of toads would gather on the ground, giving the area its original name. To highlight the unique ecological features of this location, renowned Sun Moon Lake artist Shen Cheng-Ying was invited to create a sculpture of a toad, with plans to install a frog statue on the water at the end of the trail, reinforcing the identity of Shuiwatou (which means "Frog Head"). Stretching approximately 1.5 kilometers along the lake, this scenic lakeside trail is perfect for a leisurely walk or a jog, offering stunning views of Sun Moon Lake’s serene landscape. At the trail’s end, visitors will find the iconic Nine Frogs Stack , one of Sun Moon Lake’s most famous landmarks, providing a perfect conclusion to the journey.
