Located on the northeastern side of Sun Moon Lake, the intake serves as one of the lake’s primary water sources, in addition to rainwater. In 1934, with the completion of the Sun Moon Lake Hydropower Project, a 15-kilometer-long diversion tunnel was constructed from the Wujie Reservoir on the upper reaches of the Zhuoshui River, channeling water into Sun Moon Lake. This engineering feat significantly contributed to the lake’s water supply.
Due to the large volume of incoming water, a spring-like upwelling occurs here, while the accumulation of silt fosters the lush growth of aquatic plants. This unique environment has become an ideal habitat for various water birds, including egrets, wild ducks, and night herons, further enriching the biodiversity of Sun Moon Lake.
