Originally constructed in the 1970s as part of the Sun Moon Lake International Youth Activity Center, Yule Pavilion served as a key facility for outdoor activities. At the time, the activity center was a popular venue for camping, team-building exercises, and outdoor adventures, drawing young people from across Taiwan as well as international visitors. Yue Yue Pavilion functioned as a vital resting space and meeting point, supporting these educational and recreational programs.
As the years passed, the role of the International Youth Activity Center diminished, and Sun Moon Lake evolved from an educational hub into one of Taiwan’s premier tourist destinations. With the growing popularity of lakeside trails, cycling routes, and scenic attractions, Yule Pavilion transitioned from an educational facility into a favorite stop for visitors seeking picturesque views and a tranquil place to rest. Since the completion of the Sun Moon Lake cycling trail, Yule Pavilion has become a beloved rest point for cyclists, offering a spectacular vantage point to admire the lake’s serene beauty.
Stretching from Ci’en Pagoda, Xuanzang Temple, and Xuanguang Temple to Lalu Island and finally connecting to Yule Pavilion, this route is affectionately called the “Happiness Connection” by locals. Legend has it that standing on the observation platform of Yule Pavilion and gazing out at the "sun" (日)-shaped section of the lake while making a wish toward Ci’en Pagoda will make the wish come true.
Yule Pavilion not only preserves the historical memories of Sun Moon Lake but has also become a significant landmark for modern tourism and leisure. Here, visitors can immerse themselves in the cultural stories of the Happiness Connection, relax, and savor the tranquil beauty of Sun Moon Lake.
