Chen Chih-Yuan was fascinated by the sense of ritual in life. He also like to cook. In theory, people cook to produce delicious dishes to share with loved ones. However, Chen’s purpose was to produce the complete form of a whole set of dishes and enjoy the fun of role-playing.
The most classic example was that after he emigrated to Canada, one day, he craved sushi. Thus, he spared no effort and bought a model train sent. After assembling the tracks, he found that the table at home was not big enough, so the train had to run on the floor. Later, he bought models of European-style houses to decorate it.
After all that effort, he found that he had not bought enough of the main item, sashimi. After a couple of tries, he lost interest, and the entire model train track set remains in his home to this day.
Thus, we can infer that, rather than craving sushi, what he really wanted was to recreate the feeling of eating sushi on a conveyor belt.
