Cien Pagoda was built in 1969 by Chiang Kai-shek in memory of his mother, Madame Wang. Completed in 1971, the pagoda is located on Mount Erlong, also known as Shabalan Mountain, at an altitude of 954 meters. With a tower height of 46 meters, the structure reaches exactly 1,000 meters above sea level, symbolizing the unity of heaven and humanity. Comprising nine levels, the pagoda is affectionately referred to by locals as the "Nine-Level Pagoda of Sun Moon Lake."
Directly opposite the Cien Pagoda stands the Wang Madame Memorial Hall, a two-story building. The first floor features a resting room for Chiang Kai-shek, displaying Madame Wang's portrait and simple furniture, reflecting her modest lifestyle. The basement level houses an exhibition on the construction of Cien Pagoda, including photographs of the project, design drafts, and Chiang's personally revised manuscripts, highlighting his meticulous attention to the project.
The memorial hall is surrounded by numerous plum trees, which bloom in full splendor during the late winter season. The delicate fragrance of plum blossoms fills the air, transforming the courtyard into an enchanting winter wonderland.
