After a second attempt, Chang was admitted to National Chengchi University Department of Diplomacy in 1985. In the sophomore year, he joined the guitar club, and started Thunder Spot band with classmates. It was the starting point of his fascinating music career. Besides Chang, the 1989 graduating class also included Cheng Lu-hui, the lyricist behind songs such as "I Breathe I Feel I Exist" and "Untitled."
