Best Vocalist medal for the 1st Light Music Festival
On March 29th 1988, The 1st Light Music Festival held its final in Taipei. This competition played an important role to Mandarin pop music then. Metal Kids won the Best Band, and Chang, in his junior year, won Best Vocalist.
After a second attempt, Chang was admitted to National Chengchi University Department of Diplomacy in 1985. In the sophomore year, he joined the guitar club, started Thunder Spot band with classmates, and was invited to join YEAH band. It was the starting point of his fascinating music career. In his junior year, Chang and YEAH band performed at Pop & Rock concert in National Taiwan University. Members of Metal Kids band was impressed by his outstanding voice, and Chang was invited to become the lead singer. Metal Kids participated in The 1st Light Music Festival, and won Best Performing Group and Best Lead Singer. Rock music and its impacts resurfaced later in Chang’s creative albums, and show another aspect of him authentically besides pop and romantic songs.
