"Wool felt is not purely craftsmanship, nor purely art; it strikes a balance between the two." In refining her technique, Wang Ho-Hsuan not only delved into entomology but also transformed this knowledge into her creations, giving the works more detailed life. Her understanding of insect morphology, structure, and unique features enables her to break through existing boundaries in wool felt creation, perfectly combining technique with the aesthetics of nature. The details in these insect specimens, such as wing structures and small changes in antennae, show how she incorporates her observations and knowledge into the work. Wang noted that capturing the glossiness of insects in wool felt posed a technical challenge, prompting her to explore new expressive methods. By incorporating embroidery and beadwork, she added depth and texture to her work. This interdisciplinary approach has pushed the boundaries of her creations. She believes craftsmanship should transcend technicality, fostering a flow between craft and art to ignite deeper emotions and dialogue. Felt artist Ho-Hsuan Wang grew up playing in the fields, surrounded by insects and plants.
