Written and composed by Chen Jyun-yu in 1932, this song was originally titled "Song of Indulgence (Fàngdàng Gē)" but was renamed "Haircut for a Love Pledge (Máo Duàn Xiāng Bāo)" for release. Before officially joining Taiwan Columbia, Chen submitted four sets of lyrics as his early contributions to Taiwanese popular music. Along with this piece, the other three were "Song of Longing", "A Maiden’s Lament", and "Daciao March" (Daciao refers to today’s Taipei Bridge) . These early works served as a foundation for Chen’s later impact on Taiwan’s modern song culture.
