Penglai Flower Drum|Moon-Viewing Flower Drum|Tea-Picking Flower Drum
With lyrics written by Chen Jyun-yu and music by Gao Jin-fu, the Flower Drum Trilogy blends local cultural themes with musical elements inspired by Japanese ondo traditions—featuring lyrics rooted in Taiwanese folk life and melodies suited for dance.
Each song reflects a different cultural group: “Penglai Flower Drum” (Han Chinese in Taiwan), “Moon-Viewing Flower Drum” (Indigenous Taiwanese), and “Tea-Picking Flower Drum” (Taiwanese Hakka).
All three songs were released by September 1935, coinciding with the Taiwan Exposition. “Penglai” and “Tea-Picking” were also featured in live music-and-dance performances at the event, bringing a distinctly local atmosphere to the exhibition grounds.
