The Television

Michelle Chen's television memories are arranged chronologically. During Michelle 's childhood, television was not yet widespread in Taiwan, and many children would go to their neighbors' homes to watch TV. Her earliest television memories are of black and white Western cartoons. During elementary school, she experienced the golden age of everyone watching the little-league baseball game. Teams like " Hong-Ye " (紅葉), " Giants" (巨人), and "Golden Dragon " (金龍) traveled to the United States and won the Williamsport World Championship. In junior high school, she witnessed the emergence of locally-produced soap operas like " Bodyguards " (保鑣), Yang Lihua's Taiwanese opera, and the golden era of glove puppetry with " The Grand Scholar of Yunzhou " (雲州大儒俠). During this time, news included political propaganda like the "Year of Self-Strengthening" and the news of Chiang Ching-kuo's passing. Towards the end of the programs, you will witness the rise of Taiwan's entertainment industry with events like the "Five Lights Awards" (五燈獎) and the "Stars' Meeting"(群星會). Even the beloved national female singer Feng Feifei had her own special program titled " I Love the Weekend " (我愛週末).
