Introduction : Ebru painting originated in the 15th century and is a technique used to create a 'marbling' effect. Ebru uses a special oil/water mixture in a shallow pan to suspend dyes and pigments on its surface. The dyes and pigments are then manipulated with various tools to create fluid designs, mixtures, and layers of color not possible with a brush. Paper is then laid carefully on top of the mixture and the artwork is then absorbed and transferred to the more stable medium.
Ebru has been used as decoration for books and important documents, as well as in textiles and stand-alone works of art, such as this depiction of the Turkish tulip. Due to various environmental impacts, the petal shapes and colors of tulips are altered wherever they are grown.
