The Kuroshio Current is a warm ocean current in the Pacific and the second largest ocean current in the world. The Kuroshio originates from the Pacific North Equatorial Current and flows west in the East Pacific. Once it hits land, it turns north, passing through the eastern and western shores of Taiwan. The Kuroshio Current never stops, serving as an oceanic highway that many migratory fishes, such as the flying fish, take advantage of for their northward migration.

Yami(Tao) Calendar System
The Yami (Tao) people's lives are closely tied to the flying fish. They divide their year into three seasons based on when the flying fish are around: after flying fish season (Teyteyka), before flying fish season (Amyan), and during flying fish season(Rayon). Even though the Gregorian calendar has become more common in their daily lives, the Yaami people still follow their traditional calendar for important cultural events and holidays.
