Plastic Worm

Pei-Jhen,Yang

Plastic worm is a new species of genetic mutation that adapts to the increasing plastic waste in the sea. The plastic trash can be seen everywhere, and they enter the cycle of nature without knowing it. Slowly occupying the entire ocean. The hermit crabs on the coast can’t find new shells, so they carry the plastic cover on their bodies as crab shells. This phenomenon makes me reflect on the relationship between environmental changes and biological genes. I imagine that organisms face increasingly harsh environments, their genetic structure will change accordingly. I cut and disassembled the waste plastic bottles, then stitched them with thread to form a brand new look. The densely interlaced wires make the plastic bottle buckle tightly, forming a biological body like DNA. This symbolizes that today's marine organisms are forced to reorganize their physiological structures to adapt to this "new" ocean.
