Those on my shoulder.

Yen Yitzu/Collaboration Between Mom and Son

Returning to ceramics in 2017, Yen Yitzu transformed her personal thoughts and emotions into ceramic creations, providing a creative outlet as an individual artist. Her works, marked by a warm and gentle texture, reflect themes of motherhood, her identity, and her imaginative comparisons between herself, animals, and objects. Occasionally invited to participate in group and solo exhibitions, she uses these opportunities to sell her works. "Those on my Shoulder" was showcased in her 2023 solo exhibition "Daily Gazes". She also receives limited orders through social media. A graduate of a teacher training university with a strong foundation in ceramics, Yen complements her creative work with teaching, using pottery as the core to develop a multifaceted business model. In 2019, Yen founded "Collaboration Between Mom and Son" and began showcasing co-created pottery with her children at craft markets, alongside her own ceramic artworks. These markets became a learning ground where she learned to display her works, observed customer interactions, and collected valuable feedback. This experience not only shaped the development of her ceramic art but also inspired her to reimagine sales strategies for artisan goods. Yen Yitzu/Collaboration Between Mom and Son "Collaboration Between Mom and Son" is an artistic project led by Yen Yi-tzu, a ceramic artist born in 1984. Yen collaborates with her two sons, who are currently in grades six and three, while maintaining her individual brand. Having been introduced to ceramics and various craft materials during her university years, Yen built a solid foundation in ceramic techniques. Her education in the Netherlands further expanded her creative perspective through performance and installation art. After becoming a mother, Yen felt a sharp contrast between her roles and returned to ceramics as a means of reconnecting with the raw, tactile nature of materials. When her sons’ creative expressions blossomed at age five, their question, "Why doesn’t Mom make my drawings?" inspired her to incorporate their doodles into ceramic designs, enhancing them with glazes. This approach is evident in her piece Insect Vase, capturing her children’s interpretations of the world through ceramic artistry. Yen frequently participates in crafts markets and holds exhibitions, navigating her dual identities under both "Collaboration Between Mom and Son" and her personal brand, "Yen Yit-zu" "Collaboration Between Mom and Son" is an artistic project led by Yen Yi-tzu, a ceramic artist born in 1984.
