Mazu beliefs in Taiwan have transformed from the guardian of sea then a almighty goddess. No matter in big city or small town, village by mountains or sea, capital city or middle of nowhere, you can find Mazu temples. Two guardian generals of Mazu are known as "Thousand Miles Eye" (Qianli Yan) and "With-the-Wind Ear" (Shunfeng Er). According to legend, the two brothers were named Gao Ming and Gao Jue. They were generals of the Yin Dynasty and were subdued by Jiang Ziya. After their death, their ghosts came to Taohua Mountain, and they were being evil there, and Mazu subdued them as servants. This artwork carved Mazu in a traditional image. Her solemnity, slightly plump, and compassionate face with a slight smile must be shown when she hears the call to save the suffering. Her sitting posture should be appropriately expressed, and the exquisite carvings and lacquer line decorations must be displayed. This is the essence of this work.
