Spring Table

Real Furniture

Transporting us back to the Age of Exploration in Tainan, a sailor’s diary once recorded a shipwreck that forced the crew to land on a desolate island. Desperate to survive, the sailors searched for water and eventually succeeded by dismantling the ship’s mast to prop up sails for collecting rainwater. This vivid story inspired the design of the Spring Table. The three legs of the table, symbolizing the ship’s mast, are crafted with exquisite mortise-and-tenon techniques, while the concentric ripples on the tabletop resemble rainwater drops creating waves. The Springside Table represents a blend of tradition and innovation. Unlike Japanese carpenters who rigidly follow established methods, Real Furniture embodies the Taiwanese spirit of craftsmanship, respecting tradition while embracing creative flexibility. To achieve the table's distinctive ripple patterns and make it feasible for semi-handmade mass production, they reimagined traditional tools to carve concentric circles of varying sizes into the wood. This functional design subtly reflects Tainan's rich history and culture, resonating with the local community's heritage. Real Furniture was founded in 2018 by brothers Lo Yi-Lin and Lo Kang-Wei in Tainan—born in 1988 and 1985 respectively—the duo shares a profound passion for furniture design, sparked by an exploration of their cultural roots. Drawing inspiration from the rich and diverse cultural exchanges that flourished on the island during the Age of Exploration, they named their brand "Real," a nod to the Spanish silver coin "Real", which was a vital currency in Taiwan’s history. This name symbolizes a platform for cross-cultural exchange, perfectly aligning with the brand's core vision: celebrating Taiwan’s historical and cultural heritage. Through their creations, such as Zeelandia shelf and Spring low table, which span a variety of styles, the brand highlights the unique lifestyle shaped by Taiwan's harmonious blend of diverse influences.
